Asiana Launches New Fully-Flat Business Class Seat

South Korean carrier Asiana has unveiled its new fully-flat business class seat, being fitted to its B777-200ER aircraft. Going by the name OZ Quadra Smartium, the seat features a staggered layout with all passengers enjoying aisle access.

The layout is similar to the new business class configuration favoured by Japanese carrier ANA, which results in all passengers having direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 configuration, with passengers’ legs going into a space below a cocktail table adjacent to the passenger in front.

The new seat has reduced the number of passengers in the business class cabin from 32 to 24, and increased seat pitch by 15 inches.

Asiana says the name of the new seat refers to the airline’s IATA code (OZ), the seat’s four key features (Quadra) and the “intelligent placement” of the seats (“ium” meaning “place”).

Passengers can currently sample the seat on selected flights between Seoul and San Francisco, Los Angeles and Beijing.
